Education in the upcoming years will be increasingly dynamic
in nature. Currently, the driving force behind education is and will
continue to be the employment of the Internet. The Internet has already
invaded formal classrooms as a tool for learning, but the future of the
Internet's educational usefulness lies in its ability to bring 'the school'
to the student. The Internet has reduced barriers, such as
the remoteness of students and the cost while living away from home, that
people encounter in attaining an education by allowing open communication
and widespread access to a variety of information, courses, and programs.
And as the Internet and its related technologies advance, so too will the
Internet's potential applications expand in relation to education.
At present, the availability of these programs has not entirely diffused
throughout the population, but it is becoming increasingly common as people
discover the educational value and ability the Internet can afford a prospective

My article considers the history and development
of the Internet as it relates to education. I will also illustrate
where in Canada the Internet is being employed for educational purposes
and hypothesize on the degree that the Internet, in this respect, has diffused
throughout the population. This article also considers the 'pros
& cons' of using the Internet to deliver the education of the future.
And finally, this article will project future trends and applications of
the Internet towards education in the new millennium.
